Dog Deaths

Today, right in front of me, one of my neighbors puppies was run over and killed by a Thai driver that did not bother to stop.

Even though most Thai’s are Buddhist’s they think differently when it comes to running over and killing dogs.

Fear of Complications: Drivers often fear that stopping will lead to being forced to pay exorbitant, immediate veterinary bills, even if the dog is clearly dying, leading them to flee to avoid conflict.

Avoidance of Responsibility: There is a general, sometimes observed, tendency to avoid personal responsibility for accidents to avoid legal or financial consequences, which applies to accidents with animals.

While many residents, particularly expats and local animal lovers, are deeply saddened by this, the combination of a high-speed driving culture and the prevalence of dogs sleeping on rural roads makes it a tragically common occurrence
