Gas Prices Affecting Songkran

Lots of the locals I am talking to state due to the highest prices of gas in the history of Thailand, that they will be staying close to home during the 2026 Songkran holiday.

It remains to be seen how many relatives will travel back to rural Isaan during this period as fuel, airfare and even bus costs have increased.

Songkran is one of the only times during the year, younger parents who have left the village to work in the cities, can travel back to Isaan to see their children.

The children are being raised in their absence by grandma and grandpa.

The fuel shortages seem to be getting a little better, however, that may be due to people that cannot afford the cost for fuel, which is hovering around 50thb per liter.

We would love to think it will return back to normal quickly but no one is really believing this.

Instead of traveling, we will host a local Songkran party for everyone at our house.
