A Tale of Two Isaans

Here in our rural Isaan village, we can eat most Isaan meals for 40 thb each.

That is the way of life here.

Open air mom & pop shops built on the front of their house on the side of the road.

Very cheap and convenient way most people eat here.

However, every once in a while, we can venture to the city Khon Kaen.

Khon Kaen has Central Plaza Mall, which is chock full of fancy, indoor, air-conditioned restaurants.

Yesterday, we were fortunate to go to Zen Japanese Restaurant in Central Plaza.

Extremely clean, classy place with light jazz music.

The Japanese food was awesome. We had Wagyu Beef, California Roll, Fried Flounder, Fresh Salmon, Pork Tonkatsu, Teriyaki Fish and Shrimp Tempora.

The best meal we have had for months!

The difference is, this one meal cost 3,000 thb, compared to 40 thb here in rural Isaan.

The tale of the rich Isaan in the city of Khon Kaen and the rural poor area of our village.

Wagyu Beef
Fresh Salmon
Brazed Pork with Rice
Teriyaki Fish
California Roll

We highly recommend Zen Japanese Restaurant
