If you move to Thailand and open a bank account, be advised, if you do NOT use the branch where the account was opened, that you will have to pay a service fee anytime you withdraw your own money.
Due to the strict banking rules and difficulties for foreigners needing to open a bank account for a long term visa, some foreigners have to rely on agents to get a bank account open.
The issue with that, is the agent has a specific branch they can get accounts approved and it may be that account branch is no where near where the foreigner will be living.
For example, one well known Visa Company in Bangkok, has connections getting bank accounts opened in Chinatown. How many foreigners live in Chinatown? Now if you get your bank account opened there and move to Isaan, every time you go into the bank in Isaan to withdraw your own money, you will be hit with a fee.
The only advice I have there, is wait to you have ALL the requirements to open a bank account where you live and switch as soon as possible.
Just another issue for expats to be aware of.
