If you are a young person that has moved to Thailand, be advised.
From age 60 to age 80, if you only spent 30,000 thb per month to live here, you would have needed to save ~ US $218,181 to get you from age 60 to age 80.
So influencer’s, Youtuber’s, etc. that are doing that kind of work, will have NO pension for when they get into their 60’s.
They will need to have saved US $218,000 minimum. (Working 20 years and saving ~US$1,000 a month before age 60).
At age 60, even if you have everything paid for (Which most people will still be renting), 30,000 thb per month is not going to be enough.
You can plan on health insurance during the 60 to 80 years, of eating up to US $500 a month or more.
Throw in rent, utilities, transportation and other monthly bills and you will have a hard time making it on 30,000 thb a month when you get older.
Conversely, if you didn’t have to pay any rent you might be able to squeak by with 30,000 thb a month.
Retiring means working and saving your entire life, so that when you do get old, you have enough monthly income/pension to enjoy life doing the things you want to do.
So many young people move to Thailand for the here and now, never giving one thought to what happens if they are still here when they are 60 years old?
Please tell me with the advent of AI, which jobs are still going to be guaranteed in Thailand in the next 20 to 40 years?
What if Youtube and social media is phased out?
Then what do you do for income?
Planning to move abroad the rest of your life entails a whole lot more than just getting moved.
If you haven’t given any thought to what you will be doing from age 60 on, you are going to screw yourself.
US retiree’s on social security?
As long as social security holds up and you can bring in US $2,000+ a month, you should be able to do just fine.
Those married to Thai’s, you can buy a house, solar, water well and cut down all your expenses so that your social security or retirement pension can go a lot further.
No one knows what will happen to Thailand in a modern AI future?
But one thing is for certain?
Every year each one of us will get older.
If you don’t plan on your golden years, you might be in for a huge shock when you can least expect it.
Be smart, plan ahead. Always have a plan B or C or D.
Once you build a life here, you certainly do not want to lose it later in life.
