The Meteorological Department warns that storm Kajiki will move into the northern province of Nan on Tuesday evening, bringing heavy rain with mountain runoff and flash floods in many provinces of the North and Northeast.
Director-general Sukanyanee Yawinchan said Typhoon Kajiki weakened into a tropical storm about 7pm on Monday. At 4am Tuesday it was about 40 kilometres north of Thailand’s Bung Kan province.
The storm was moving westwards and would weaken further into a depression and a low pressure system before covering the northern province of Nan on Tuesday evening, she said.
Heavy rain and strong winds are likely in provinces near the path of the storm, particularly Loei, Nong Khai, Bung Kan, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit and Lampang.
