Foreign Prostitutes Arrested

PATTAYA – Eight women from Africa and Central Asia have been arrested for soliciting for purposes of prostitution along Pattaya beach, as part of a year-end crackdown on public nuisances to protect the beach city’s tourism image.

Acting on complaints, investigators from the Chon Buri immigration office first observed the behaviour of foreign women believed to be offering sex services near the entrance to Soi 13-13/4 along Pattaya beach in the early hours of Wednesday.

Pol Col Napaspong Kositsuriyamanee, the provincial immigration chief, said an undercover foreign agent posing as a tourist took a stroll along the beachfront and was approached by a group of foreign women who offered to have sex with him.  The investigating team documented the interaction before showing up and making arrests.

Eight women were taken into custody: five Ugandans, two Uzbeks and one Madagascan. They were charged with openly soliciting for sex in a public place and causing a public nuisance and embarrassment.

Each was fined 1,000 baht and had their visas revoked. They were taken to Pattaya City police station pending deportation.
