I have come across many people in my village, that do not have the basic education to read or write.
I notice this when strangers stop me at an ATM and ask my to help them navigate the ATM menu, because they cannot read.
Often these folks will go to an ATM like the one shown, where they know there is a kind and honest person willing to help them and not steal their money.
This is a Thailand far away from the educated in the cities or those in the tourist areas.
But it is a real life struggle as many people here were forced to drop out of school as a young child, to work alongside their parents doing manual labor in the fields.
There is no such thing as going back to school, as day to day survival is the only important thing.
It is sad to see and a constant reminder the rural areas of Thailand never seem to move forward with the times.
