A 53-year-old woman has been killed in a road crash in Sisaket province after a car driven by a monk allegedly under the influence of alcohol collided with her motorcycle, prompting her family to vow to pursue legal action to the fullest extent. The incident has caused shock and anger in the local community, with relatives of the victim stating they will not offer forgiveness.
The crash occurred at about 9.45am on 21 January 2026 on Rural Highway Sisaket 4041, at a four-way junction near the end of Ban Phek village in Rang Raeng subdistrict, Uthumphon Phisai district. A black saloon car struck a motorcycle, leaving the rider fatally injured at the scene despite rescue attempts by villagers and emergency responders.
Police identified the car driver as Phra Somporn, aged 51, a monk who was reportedly heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash. Witnesses and officers said he was unable to stand properly, was not wearing a shirt and was dressed only in a monk’s lower robe, which had come loose at the scene.
The deceased was identified as Ms Worawan Inthatham, aged 53. According to her family, she had left home earlier that morning after sending her grandchild to school, returning briefly to eat before heading out again to visit farmland and a chilli garden to record video content. The crash happened after she stopped to refuel her motorcycle.
Ms Worawan’s younger brother, Mr Suchart Inthatham, aged 51, said the family was devastated by the sudden loss. He stated that he would not forgive the driver and wanted police to prosecute the case fully, describing his sister as a cheerful person who had never harmed anyone.
The victim’s youngest daughter, Ms Patcharin Salikit, aged 26, said she had been working in Bangkok on the day of the crash. She explained that she had exchanged routine messages with her mother earlier that morning, only to later receive a phone call informing her that her mother had been killed. She said she was shocked and heartbroken and also insisted that authorities take the case to its conclusion.
Amarin reported that police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances of the crash and the actions of the driver. Legal proceedings are expected to follow as authorities gather evidence and consider charges.
