Rural Isaan is the poorest region in Thailand.
It won’t be long before you see people that are less fortunate than you.
Unfortunately, many of these are elders, with no support from family or kids and a paltry monthly stipend from the gov.
You will see many of these elders around rural Isaan begging at the local markets or anywhere else they have learned people will be generous and give them a few baht.
These folks should not be confused with the foreign hustlers in Bangkok, putting children on the street at all hours. This is a scam!
We do our part to help the less fortunate, however, many Thai people will walk right by not giving one thought that it could be them someday.
Quite sad actually that these elders have to lose all their self respect and beg for coins.
Step up and do your part.
Even 20 baht can go a long way towards compassionately helping these people.
