When moving to Thailand, many foreigners try to make Thailand the same as their home country.
It rarely works, no matter how much effort you put into it.
Thailand will never be the first world USA, UK, Australia, etc.
If you plan on moving to Thailand, you have the understand the Thai way.
The way many things are done here and will never change.
Despite the many rules and laws on the books here, the real question is enforcement.
There are tourist areas like Phuket where the laws are rigorously enforced for foreigners and then there is rural Isaan where they are never enforced.
Depending on the level of education, people in some parts of Thailand are going to do things much different than your homeland.
Take driving as an example. In rural Isaan we have the turtle slow drivers that will force you to pass and we have those drivers that drive as fast as they can and expect you to move out of the way.
Tail-gating in another issue.
People driving with zero formal driver’s education training.
A huge number driving without a license.
Burning fields, burning trash, burning things to stay warm.
Despite the laws, many places there is zero enforcement to the locals keep on doing it.
Vehicles belching black smoke may be stopped in Bangkok, however, in Isaan where you will see the majority of trucks, you see the black smoke belchers every single day.
Thai’s have a way of doing things.
If you cannot accept them and learn to live with them, you will come to hate Thailand.
You have to remember Thailand is not your first world home.
The way it is here is the way it is.
You need to learn, sabai-sabai, to live with it.
