Khanom Krok Named Thailand’s Best Dessert

Khanom krok, or coconut rice pancakes, has been ranked Thailand’s No.1 dessert of 2026 by TasteAtlas, a globally recognized culinary platform often described as a “world food atlas”.

The rankings were based on reviews and ratings from consumers and food enthusiasts worldwide. The result reflected how the charm of Thai desserts extended far beyond the country’s borders, winning the hearts of people across cultures, deputy government spokesperson Aiyarin Phanrit on Wednesday.

Khanom krok stands out for its distinctive qualities — the rich aroma of coconut milk, a crisp exterior with a soft centre, and its meticulous preparation process — all of which embody Thai culinary wisdom passed down through generations.

Aside from khanom krok, other Thai sweets and popular treats that made the list included khao nieo mamuang (mango sticky rice), khanom chan (layered jelly dessert), lod chong (pandan rice noodles in coconut milk), ruam mit (mixed tropical dessert), chao kuai (grass jelly), kluay tod (fried bananas) and pa thong ko (Thai-style doughnuts).

Ms Aiyarin said these Thai desserts highlighted the diversity of the country’s culinary heritage and underscored the role of food as an important pillar of soft power.

The success of khanom krok represented a collective achievement for the Thai people, particularly local communities, entrepreneurs and custodians of traditional dessert-making, she added.

The Ministry of Culture has pledged to continue promoting Thailand’s cultural capital to generate both spiritual and economic value, she said.
