With all that is going on in the world, we are very content living in rural Isaan.
Rural Isaan offers a very laid back atmosphere centered around farming and hard working people with low per capita income.
Costs are the lowest in Thailand.
The attraction is the peace and quiet life.
No one gets concerned with politics and what is going on in the world.
No one cares what is on the news.
People here are busy just trying to get through each day earning enough money to eat.
For foreigners with a western income, life can be very grand here.
However, rural Isaan does have it’s own drawbacks.
Unless you can live like a rural Thai, this area is not the place for you.
Forget any western conveniences, except what you build into your own house.
No Malls, no inside air conditioned restaurants, no movies theaters or anything else.
As a foreigner you learn to live like a local, which includes eating nothing but Thai food.
For those that own a car/truck, there is always a trick to Makro in the city, if you feel the need to stock up on expensive western food.
Rural Isaan teaches you that you only need the basics to have a quality life.
No stress, no worries with what is going on in the world.
We might not have all the conveniences but we do have zero stress!
