When you live in rural Isaan and have some land, you can grow your own fruits and vegetables.

One thing to know is that during the dry season, the ground can be as hard as a rock.
It will take a lot of effort to get things planted.

When planting, you have 2 choices, planting by seed or by starter plants.
Starter plants can be had for as little as 5 baht each.
Pack of seeds can be 10 to 25 baht.
Many farmers here do not treat the soil or do anything special.
However, in order to grow in the dry season, which is the hottest time of the year, you need plenty of water.
We use a well with a solar powered water pump and PVC irrigation tubes and sprinklers.

You have to monitor your fruit trees and plants for insects.
This is a reality that needs to be treated and looked after carefully.
Most anything will grow in Isaan.
We have corn, cabbage, Thai chilies, green peppers, green onions, Kale, tomatoes, lettuce and other vegetables.
Mangos, Rambutan, Lychees, Soursop, Papaya, Coconuts, Bananas, Limes and many other exotic fruits.
With time and hard work, you can reap the benefits of free fruit and vegetables
