If you have US Social Security income, you have enough income to live in rural Thailand.
With a few caveats!
One, you must have the money to cover your long term visa requirements.
Second, rural Isaan requires you own a car/truck.
There are still houses for rent in rural Isaan for US $100 a month.
Rural Isaan is the farm belt of Thailand.
Farming villages and communities.
It is a simple, peaceful and friendly way to live.
Elders are well respected here.
Medical care is much cheaper that the cities and tourist areas.
Medicines are super cheap.
This is a place that you CAN live on US $1,000 without skimping.
However, you need to embrace the Thai way of life, eat Thai food and buy things made in China and Thailand in the local shops.
An Iced Coffee in my village can be bought for 20thb. Many other drink flavors as well.
In return you get a ton of nature, no crime, no traffic and no social problems.
If you have a car, you can always get out of rural Isaan and visit anywhere you want.
You can make trips to Makro to get western food as available.
You won’t have one worry in the world.
