Rural Isaan is Noisy

If you plan to live in a rural Isaan moo ban surrounded by neighbors, be prepared for all kinds of noise.

I am up at 2:26 AM, I can hear a cat screaming loudly which triggers all the neighborhood dogs to start howling in chorus, and it is extremely loud.

Come 4 AM, all of the roosters seem to wake up in concert, and continue to crow for the next 2 hours.

Toss in a couple of super loud motorbikes and your morning sleep is completely wrecked.

It is the way life is here in a moo ban village.

There isn’t anything you can do about it because that is normal life here.

Villagers are starting to move to the outskirts of town, just to avoid the noise.

For foreigners that meet a Thai girl in a rural village and end up at her house, this does not end well.

It can only take a couple of nights of this before the foreigner is packing it in to move somewhere else.

I would like to say people that have lived here a long time get use to it???

We have a large fan going on high-speed each night, even with the air con on.

The sound of the fan helps to sleep, but even a fan motor can be overpowered by the noise outside.

Before planning on spending the rest of your life in a rural village, better give it a try for a couple of nights to see if you handle it.
