Foreigner Disappears in River

Chiang Mai police and rescue teams are searching the Ping River for a foreign man who stole a police motorcycle and jumped into the water to avoid arrest.

Officers from Mueang Chiang Mai Police Station, along with rescuers from several foundations in the province, began searching the river today, March 16. As of the latest update, they had not located the man and his nationality had not been confirmed.

Channel 7 reported the foreign man became involved in a high-speed chase with police after stealing a police motorcycle from Suan Dok Temple.

He reportedly rode towards the 5th Army Area Bridge on Mahidol Road in Pa Daet subdistrict. After reaching the bridge, he parked the motorcycle and jumped into the Ping River below before disappearing.

Police and rescue teams searched for more than an hour but were unable to find him. The search continued as officers suspected he may be hiding in the area. Police have not identified the foreign man or disclosed a motive for the theft.
