The Rainy Season

The rainy season is the complete opposite of the dry season.

For some, the rain is welcome to cool things down and keep the massive amounts of dust down from the dry season.

All the brown foliage turns a brilliant green.

However, the rainy season does bring it’s own challenges no matter where you are in Thailand.

Monsoon rains is a ton of water.

In Pattaya and Phuket for example, streets can flood 2 feet deep in 1 hour.

The same in Bangkok. Causing traffic nightmares.

In rural Thailand, we have the same issue except many rural places just become giant mud pits.

Streets can become rivers and cause wash outs.

In areas of Isaan where the soil is hard clay, the water simply won’t drain.

It will pool up and run everywhere creating a nightmare to deal with.

If you are building a house or other outdoor projects, this can cause serious delays waiting for the rain to dry up.

I prefer the rainy season, not the flooding during building, but being able to enjoy the rain is marvelous.

Temperatures are coolers and things just seem to naturally come to life here in rural Isaan.

You have to learn to live with the monsoon rains and once you can do that, it is quite a nice time of the year.
