3.0 Quake in Chiang Rai/Chiang Mai

CHIANG RAI – Residents in several districts of his northern province reportedly felt tremors from a 3.0‑magnitude earthquake in Mae Suai district at 5.31am on Thursday.

The quake was detected at a depth of two kilometres in tambon Mae Suai, according to the Earthquake Observation Division of the Department of Mineral Resources.

There were no reports of damage or injuries, it said.

The cause was movement along the Mae Lao Fault Zone, an active left‑lateral strike‑slip fault running through Mae Suai, Mae Lao and Muang districts of Chiang Rai.

Tremors from the minor quake were initially reported in Mae Suai, Phan and Muang districts in Chiang Rai, and San Sai district of Chiang Mai, with no damage, the observation division said.
