Isaan word for How?

In the Isaan (Lao-influenced) dialect, the word for “how” is usually:

👉 จั่งใด (jang-dai) or จั่งได๋ (jang-dai / jang-dai๋)

Both forms are used, but จั่งได๋ is very common in everyday Isaan speech.

Examples:

  • เฮ็ดจั่งได๋? (het jang-dai?)
👉 How do you do it?
  • ไปจั่งได๋? (pai jang-dai?)
👉 How do you go? / How to get there?
  • สิมาจั่งได๋? (si ma jang-dai?)
    👉 How will you come?

Quick tip:

  • “จั่ง” (jang) = “like this / in this way”
  • “ได๋” (dai) = question word (like “how”)

So together, it literally means something like “in what way?”
