Yesterday we ventured to the big city of Khon Kaen, to Central Plaza Mall and Big Camera to buy a drone.
Big Camera is an authorized dealer of DJI and has a nice selection of DJI Drones, Action Cameras and DSLR Cameras and lenses.
The drone we selected is a DJI Mini Pro 5. Our goal was something small and lightweight, with it’s own colored display.
The first thing that will shock you is the price which for the DJI Mini 5 Pro and the Fly More Combo Kit (extra batteries, triple charger, blades, etc.). The price was 37,000 thb (US $1,193). We then added a clear screen protector for the controller (300 thb) and a high speed 256gb memory micro-SD card for 1750 thb.
These drones are quite pricey to say the least.
The staff lady at Big Camera was super knowledgeable and helpful during the entire process.
Not only did she spend almost 2 hours updating the drone’s firmware, she also filled out ALL of the paperwork to have the drone legally registered and licensed in Thailand.
If you are going to fly a drone in Thailand, it needs to be registered and licensed.
Once the drone was updated, she had us take off in the store, (the auto-hover take-off feature is limited to 1 meter in height) and showed us how to use all the drone controls.
Once the paperwork was complete and drone updated, she packed up everything very neatly in the carrying bag the drone came it and we were on our way.
Being in rural Isaan, we felt a drone could help us portray life in rural Isaan in an entirely different prospective than with just a video camera.
