For many expat seniors, when they retire and decide to move to Thailand, it is a one way trip.
Meaning, for the majority, once the move is made there will not be another move back home, ever.
If you find yourself in this situation, it can be a very stressful time.
Selling up all the belongings you have collected your whole life will not be easy. Though, the reality is you don’t really need them in Thailand.
Selling your house if you choose, your cars, furniture and personal possessions is not an easy or fun task. It can be very sad and stressful letting go of personal items.
Leaving family and friends that you may never have the chance again to meet in person. Very sad and stressful.
Getting all your affairs in order and closing all the accounts you will no longer use. Basically cutting all ties you have with your home country.
Setting up a bank to do monthly international money transfers and keeping a phone active in your home country is a must.
So is setting up a virtual mailbox.
Sorting out your clothes for what you want to keep that will fit in a suitcase and those you will donate.
There are so many things that need to be done, in order to move cleanly.
Lining up a place to stay on touchdown when you first arrive in Thailand, setting up your visa, getting a bank account, drivers license, insurance and more.
Seems like a daunting task but it has to be done and you should not get stressed out about it.
The idea you are never going home will set in sooner or later, when you accept you will die in Thailand some day.
When Thailand is the final destination, this can be hard to mentality comprehend until you have physically moved and understand you won’t be going home.
No one ever said it was going to be easy starting a new life, but if it is your chose, then it has to be.
Once you are established and settled into Thailand, you will still miss all those things.
However, you should have many new experiences to replace them with.
Welcome to Thailand, enjoy your life.
You earned it!
