Even in 2025, there are still many households in rural Isaan with no running water.
We get water from the village reservoir; however, it is only for 1 hour (2 times per day).
Other than that, the public water is turned off.
2 hours is not enough to meet the daily requirements of a household, so you have to improvise.
We use an external 2000 liter tank to store rain water.
A small pump can pump the water out of the tank to where you need it.
Improvising is often the only way to get things to the way you need them to be.
With no running water fulltime, there is no on-demand shower, toilet flushing or filling a washing machine.
Sound a little primitive to you?
That is because in this day and age, it is.
However, in rural Isaan you have to improvise and make do.
There is no complaining, no one coming to save you.
You have to be mentally tough enough to find solutions and not complaints.
Sooner or later, you get used to it.
