SURAT THANI – Four Israelis have been arrested on Koh Phangan after police raided a party at a luxury villa, where the occupants were discovered using a potentially deadly polydrug in pills shaped like Labubu dolls.
Tourist police on the southern island received a hotline report from local residents that a house was holding a loud party, with suspicious foreigners coming and going throughout Friday.
Officers raided the house and found four Israeli men, who attempted to flee but failed.
A search uncovered several illegal substances, including cocaine, ecstasy (MDMA) and a polydrug, referred to by users as “candy” and shaped like the popular art toy Labubu.
The “candy” drug contained high concentrations of MDMA mixed with other substances such as ketamine, cocaine and caffeine, Koh Phangan district chief Paisit Thongcherm said.
The combination increases the risk of fatal overdose, with the potential to cause sudden cardiac arrest.
Thai authorities first alerted the public to the Labubu- and Doraemon-shaped combination pills last year, saying they were particularly concerned that children might try them.
Some of the combination drugs, they said, contained MDMA and ketamine mixed with diazepam, making them potentially lethal.
The four suspects arrested on Friday were identified as Eliran Avitan, 27; Sali Sason, 27; Dor Nachmias, 29; and Ben Aslan, 29.
They were charged with possession and use of Category 1 and 2 narcotics. Authorities said their visas would be revoked and they would be deported.
