When in Thailand, you need to keep your eyes open.
Forget all the things you take for granted in the west like safety.
If you zipline, or other adventure activities like rafting be advised the safety level may not be up to par with what you are expecting.
Do not expect Thai people to do the right or correct things.
Here are some examples of things to watch out for:
Stray (Soi) dogs – When out an about, there is always that one or two stray dogs that may try to bite you. Do not think they are ALL friendly.
Motorbike drivers on the wrong side of the road.
When driving and turning right, a motorbike will try to pass you on the right. Always use your mirrors before making any turn.
Scammers, they are all over the tourist areas and cities.
Taxis that won’t use the meter.
Opening a taxi door without checking the path is clear.
Pickpockets in places like Khao San Road.
Overfriendly Thai people coming up to you offering assistance you did not ask for.
Police checkpoints – Better understand the laws here and be 100% in compliance.
Food poisoning – Yes it happens more than you think. Be aware of the cleanliness of where you are eating and if the place is empty, steer clear.
Fighting/Drunken brawling – Do not join in or try to provide assistance.
If it is too good to be true, then it is NOT. Don’t fall for it.
Thailand is a place you really have to keep your eyes open to all your surroundings at all times.
Do not become complacent and take the place for granted.
