Bathroom and Shower

This is a typical setup for the bathroom and shower in a rural Thai house when there is no fulltime running water.

You have to adapt just like all the other locals have done their entire lives.

The shower room will have a large square cement holding area for the water.

Thai Bath Holding

Fill up the box full when the water supply is running.

To take a shower, you soak yourself with the yellow pan full of water. Once wet, apply soap, and then rinse off by pouring more pans of water over your body.

Sounds archaic but this is the way in rural Isaan for the many that do not have on demand fulltime running water.

The toilet operates the same way. There is no flush. To flush the toilet, once again you have to pour the yellow pans of water down the toilet.

New houses have adopted western style toilets, however, with no running water the flushing process is the same. Water has to be poured from the red bin down the toilet to manually flush.

Things are things you might have to adapt to if you are renting a house in rural Isaan.

When you build your own house, you can install a water well to ensure you always have running water.
