Chinese ‘Zombie Pod Dealer Arrested in Pattaya

PATTAYA – A Chinese national has been arrested for illegally selling ketamine-laced vape pods, known as zombie pods, to partygoers in Pattaya beach town.

Yu Kun, 34, was arrested in tambon Nong Prue of Bang Lamung district, Chon Buri, on Tuesday by a team of Provincial Police Region 2 and local Pattaya police.

The arresting officers also impounded 12,000 baht and many ketamine pods found in his possession.

Mr Yu’s detention followed a tip-off that a Chinese tourist was selling ketamine-filled vape pods to other tourists attending parties in Pattaya, police said.

An undercover officer was sent to make contact with the man and he arranged a purchase at 1,200 baht per pod. Delivery was arranged in front of a condominium on Soi Thappraya 15, in tambon Nong Prue.

When the seller showed up to make delivery and receive payment, police waiting nearby moved in to arrest him.

The suspect was arrested in possession of 10 ketamine pods and the 12,000 baht in marked banknotes used in the sting operation.

A subsequent search of his condominium room uncovered an additional 40 ketamine pods, 400 empty pod heads with liquid containers and caps, and three plastic zip-lock bags containing a white powder identified as etomidate, a different sedative but similar to ketamine.

The suspect, identified later as Yu Kun, was handed over to investigators for legal proceedings.

The operation was led by Pol Lt Col Kanisorn Apisom of Police Region 2 and Pol Capt Phubet Ruamsap, deputy investigation chief at Pattaya police station
