There are over 1,700,000+ vendors in Thailand.
Vendor’s that make 100% of their income selling something.
During some local travels this weekend, I noticed there are many vendors in the same location, selling the exact same things?
Why is this?
Road side fruit stands, 20 in a row all selling the same kind of 1 fruit?
I have no rhyme or reason for why this is, but I noticed this happens everywhere.
Today in Khao Kho at the Wind Turbines, the vendors are selling the exact same fruits, wines, trinkets and clothes.
There must be at least 10 vendors in the same location selling the exact same brands.
Where I live in a rural Isaan village, there are at least 50 coffees shops, all selling the exact same drinks?
I can only theorize that one coffee shop opened and started making money, so another one copied and opened, then a third, then 50+.
Now they are too many coffee shops to service what few paying coffee customers we have here.
That is the same thing that happens over and over and over in Thailand.
I bought pineapples the other day. 2 Bushels. 10 other vendors in the same location all selling pineapples did not sell any.
The advent of over 1,700,000 sellers, means that is simply not enough paying customers for all of them to make money.
Many go out of business and a new one will start thinking they have a better way.
Thai’s never seem to understand the basic concept of supply and demand.
There is only such demand for products and when you over-exceed the supply, then some of the vendors won’t sell anything.
Tough way to make a living.
