Rice cutting season has arrived in rural Isaan to the joy of all the villagers that depends on these jobs.
For those field owners that cannot afford machine cutting via hiring a rice cutting machine, the only on option is to have the rice cut manually by hand.
Reports are rice cutters are only being paid 300 thb (US $9.28) per DAY. (not hour)!
Bending over to cut rice manually with a scythe is back-breaking work and to do this for 10 hours a day for 300 thb is hard, hard work.
Jobs are far and few between in rural Isaan.
During cutting season, villages young and old, relish these jobs to make what ever money they can.
The farmers get the small share of the crop, yet are responsible to cut and sort, before it can be sold to a middle man.
An extremely tough like for only 300 thb per day.
