A French fugitive wanted on charges of drug smuggling between Europe and America was arrested in Pattaya by Thai police on Monday.
The 32-year-old, identified only as “Bones”, was named in an Interpol red notice, signifying he was the subject of a national arrest warrant or court order and asking for global law enforcement cooperation in his apprehension.
Pol Maj Gen Songprote Sirisukkha, commander of Immigration Division 3, said the Frenchman was arrested in Pattaya on Monday. According to French authorities, he is a member of a big drugs cartel influential in Paris and its vicinity.
He is accused specifically of drug smuggling and involvement in criminal syndicates. Under French law, the offences carry a prison term of up to 10 years.
Mr Bones entered Thailand via Suvarnabhumi airport last month and went immediately to Pattaya, where he was hiding and preparing to travel to a third country, Pol Maj Gen Songprote said.
Immigration police revoked his visa and were coordinating his extradition.
