Hat Yai Cleanup

The Natural Resources and Environment Ministry’s first-day clean-up in flood-hit Hat Yai removed more than 300 tonnes of waste, with 780 officials and 88 vehicles deployed across the town.

Saturday by around 780 officials from the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, resulted in the removal of more than 300 tons of waste, the deputy government spokeswoman said on Sunday.

Lalida Persvivatana, deputy government spokeswoman, said Natural Resources and Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin had reported the results of the first day of operations to the prime minister.

On Saturday, 780 personnel from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, the Royal Forest Department, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, and the Pollution Control Department were deployed to help clean Hat Yai following the floods. Lalida added that 88 vehicles and 4,000 pieces of equipment were also provided to support the clean-up efforts from morning until dusk.

Officials from the ministry also prepared 5,500 boxes of freshly cooked meals for distribution to flood victims.

During the operation, the teams managed to clear and remove over 300 tons of rubbish, waste and mud. They cleaned buildings, roads, pavements, and several key public areas, including Wat Hong Pradittharam and Municipality School 3. In total, more than 28,800 square meters of public space were cleaned.

Lalida added that ministry officials would continue cleaning and rehabilitating the flood-stricken town until residents are able to safely return to their daily routines.
