This last earthquake has everyone thinking? Is it is safe to live in a high rise condo in Bangkok?
As a Thai, I would never live in a high rise condo. Ever!
Although the chance might be ridiculously small, the thought of being trapped underneath a condo collapse is not something I am willing to risk.
Safety has never been ahead of corruption in Thailand, you had better understand that.
Remembering that the epicenter of this earthquake was over 600+ miles from Bangkok and buildings still cracked and collapsed, what do you think would happen with an epicenter much closer to Bangkok?
Sorry, I am just not ready to risk this.
The other issue is if there is damage to your building, will it be adequately fixed? Or just covering over the real damage with plaster and paint?
Without a complete engineering structural report, (that would cost a ton of money), who is to say plastering the cracks is fixing the real problem?
Although this should be a real eye opening call to action, many will go right back to living in high rise condos and that is their choice.
You will never find me living in a high rise, no matter what.
Afterall, this is Thailand and safety has never been #1.
