Tracks of a large, adult tiger were discovered near the Mae Kued Luang community forest in Tak province. Officials warn villagers to avoid entering the area.

On December 11, 2025, Mr. Panachakorn Phothibandit, Director of the Conservation Area Management Office 14 (Tak) of the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, revealed that following a report from residents of Ban Mae Kued Luang, Moo 1, Mae Kasa Subdistrict, Mae Sot District, Tak Province, who found tiger footprints in the community forest area yesterday (December 10) at 12:10 PM, he ordered officials to investigate.
Mr. Samrit Muangmaithong, head of Khun Phawao National Park in Tak province, reported that upon learning of the incident, he immediately dispatched officers to investigate the area. They found tiger tracks measuring 19×18 centimeters on the ground near the Pang Wua stream. The size of the tracks indicates it was a large, adult tiger, and the tracks were found only 275 meters from the boundary of Khun Phawao National Park.

“Due to the discovery of traces in an area near a community, Khun Phawao National Park has coordinated with local leaders to warn residents to exercise caution via the community’s public address system and communication channels. They have also requested that residents refrain from entering the forest area in question until it is confirmed safe by authorities.”
Mr. Samrit stated that, in order to continuously monitor the situation and maintain vigilance, Khun Phawao National Park will install camera traps and intensify patrols in the area.
This sighting of a tiger also demonstrates the abundance of forest resources in the area, presenting a significant opportunity to conserve rare wildlife. Officials will work carefully to ensure public safety while simultaneously preserving the ecosystem.
