Motorbikes on Flooded Streets

During monsoon season, water can accumulate quickly in the streets.

Many people in Thailand are use to driving their motorbikes in flooded streets.

Here are some things to be aware of:

  1. A large volume of water can wash out portions of the street creating large pot holes.
  2. Excessive amounts of objects and trash will be in the flooded streets.
  3. The motorbikes brakes will not work as well.
  4. If you drive too slow and the water goes into the exhaust pipe, you could end up with serious damage. Always rev the engine to force any water out.
  5. Accidents can be more prevalent.
  6. Cars driving past will create large waves, swamping your bike.
  7. Tire punctures are possible due to the degree in the water.

Driving of flooding streets is not recommended, however, it is part of life in Thailand.

Be aware and drive cautiously!
