I have recently purchased 4 motorbikes (new) in the past 2 weeks (1 oct 2025) so this information in up to date.
Being these were purchased in rural Isaan, the price could be much lower than if purchased in a tourist area or city?
2 popular brands from Honda are the Honda Wave and the Honda Scoopy.
I suggest the Scoopy for new riders because it has an automatic transmission and there is no need to shift. Simply click the electric switch, twist the throttle and you are off and running. Scoopy’s are very handy for running errands.
The second model is the Honda Wave, which you can get in 110cc or 125cc. Honda Wave’s have to be manually shifted and for riders experienced with down/up shifting of the manual gears.
Hands down to me, the Scoopy is the more comfortable model and easier to ride around.
We purchased (2) Scoopy’s for 53,000 thb each (brand new) and paid cash. A free helmet and long sleeve Honda shirt were included.

The (2) Honda Waves we purchased were the 110cc models (brand new) and paid cash. These were 42,000 thb each. Free Helmets and shirts were included.

As a Thai or married to a Thai, if you are paying cash, you can be in and out the door with your new motorbike in 30 minutes.
I am not going to comment on different visa types and who is allowed to purchase. This post is about people living in rural Isaan.
