Steel Samples Fail Tests

The investigation into the collapsed State Audit Office building revealed that two steel samples did not meet the required standards, leading to discrepancies in other measurements.

Thitiphats Chotidechachainan, head of the working group, yesterday, March 31, announced that the examination of steel samples from the collapsed building identified two non-compliant samples.

Both samples originated from the same company, which had previously been ordered to cease production by the Thai Industrial Standards Institute in December.

What you may not realize about third world countries, is large scale projects are ripe with corruption. Forget safety, any way to put extra money into their own pockets, will occur.

Unsuspecting foreigners may or may not have any idea the extent to which corruption can affect their daily lives in Thailand.

We have to remember the epicenter of this earthquake was approximately 650 miles from Bangkok, yet completely crumbled the SAO building and caused huge cracks in many residential condos.

Had the epicenter hit Bangkok or closer, there possible could have been widespread damage and death on the scale of what is being reported from Myanmar.

You might want to think twice about buying a condo in a high rise building.

This is not the first earthquake and it won’t be the last.

Be smart.
