Summer Storm Warnings

The Meteorological Department has issued its second advisory on summer storms, warning that severe weather is expected across northern Thailand from Monday through into Wednesday.

The first areas to be affected will be in the Northeast, with thunderstorms, gusty winds, some hail and isolated heavy rain that will expand into the North and Central regions, includng Bangkok and surrounding provinces, and to the East in the days that follow.

Scattered lightning strikes were also possible, the weather office said.

The forecast attributes the unsettled weather to a high‑pressure system and a mass of cool air moving from China into the Northeast and over the South China Sea.

At the same time, southerly and southeasterly winds are strengthening across the Northeast, Central and East regions, and the Gulf of Thailand, while a westerly trough is passing over the North and Northeast.

Hot to very hot conditions over upper Thailand will further intensify storm activity, the forecast said.

People in affected areas are urged to avoid open spaces, large trees, unstable structures and billboards during thunderstorms. Farmers are advised to provide support for fruit trees and ensure agricultural produce and livestock are protected.

The department also advises people to care for their health as weather conditions fluctuate, and to look for updates on the Meteorological Department’s official website.
