Thailand is often bashed for it’s 2 tiered pricing.
One low price for Thai People and one high price for foreigners.
Despite all the bad publicity over the years, Thailand has never discontinued this discriminatory 2 tier pricing.
For example, the fee at a National Park could be 40 thb for a Thai person and 100 to 400 thb for a foreigner.
Many tourists think that is very unfair and I do to.
Expats that have moved to Thailand often boycott these places rather than pay that higher discriminate price.
It gives foreigners the impression they are more interested in money than tourism?
The idea that just because you are a tourist that you can afford higher prices for the same things Thai’s are charged lower prices is just very wrong.
As a Thai person, I hate to see this in my own country.
Not only is 2 tiered pricing in tourist attraction fee’s, it is even worse in other areas.
Planning to buy Land? A house with your Thai wife?
As soon as the sellers see a foreigner is involved, the price will triple.
The same with other large purchases as well.
My father got a completely different price quoted when inquiring about a new tractor, as my husband that has been here 33 years.
2 tier pricing is one thing that is discriminate and should be eliminated.
However, I suspect many of these 2 tier fee’s are going into someone’s pocket each month.
The decision has to be left to each person whether or not they want to pay a 2 tiered fee in Thailand.
It is sad but that is just the ways things work here.
