Wishing

Today is my cousin’s son’s 17th birthday.

They are extremely poor and my cousin (female) supports 2 sons working manual labor in the fields for US $10 a day.

Her son is a good kid and my husband gives him jobs so that he will have some money in his pocket.

Once day my husband asked him what he was spending his money on?

His reply was “I am saving it all for a pair of sport shoes”.

(This is a kid that has worn nothing but flip flops his entire life.)

My husband was saddened beyond belief that his only wish was for a pair of shoes.

My husband asked him what kind of shoes?

His wish was for a pair of Nike.

One of the realities of rural Isaan is the fact many families live way under the poverty line.

There are many things kids want but their families simply cannot afford it.

My husband had our son order a pair of Nike Air Jordans from the US for his birthday tonight.

To my cousin’s kid, this will be nothing short of a miracle.

It won’t change his life, it won’t change his financial situation, it won’t change his life trajectory from being a manual labor worker his entire life.

But for one night, we will see a sparkle in a kid’s eyes and that makes it worth more than anything in the world.

If you are in Thailand, help someone out. It will fill your heart with joy!
