This is What Happens

The Thai government is now talking about moving the 60 day arrival (exempt) stamp back to 30 days.

This was announced as a measure to combat foreigners who have come to Thailand for 60 days and starting illegal businesses.

Just this week a Hungarian man, age 38, was operating an unauthorized motorcycle rental business on Koh Phangan island.

Evidence seized included nine motorcycles, a BB gun with a magazine loaded with pellets, and registration documents for more than 20 motorcycles.

Local’s notified the authorities who promptly arrested the man for working illegally.

Numerous other foreigners were arrested in Phuket and the surrounding area for running illegal businesses reserved for Thai’s such as nurseries and travel agencies.

In Other News, Thai Tourist Police have arrested a Russian national who allegedly extorted fellow Russians on Koh Phangan island in Surat Thani province by posing as a mafia member with connections to high-ranking Thai officials.

The 27-year-old suspect, identified only as Vladislav, was apprehended on Sunday evening (March 9) at a cannabis shop in Moo 4, Ban Tai sub-district, where he was working as a sales employee.

Tourist Police received multiple complaints from visitors to the popular holiday island about a foreign man who intimidated Russian tourists, photographed himself wearing tactical vests with firearms, and collected protection money. The suspect reportedly claimed he worked with high-ranking Thai government officials and could help resolve legal issues.

Due to the actions of these law breakers, ALL foreigners who abided by the law, will have their arrival (exempt) stamps limited them to only a 30 day stay in Thailand (void of any extension).

The good tourist paying for this bad behavior by the law breakers.
